Welcome to this week’s edition of breakfast in bed, a free newsletter delivered to your inbox every Sunday morning. The intention behind the newsletter is to serve as a distraction from your existential Sunday dread—AKA the Sunday Scaries. It is broken into five categories, each of which represents one of the ways I distract from my own Sunday Scaries. Thank you for reading!

books
This week, instead of sharing books I’ve read and recommend, I thought it would be fun to share my October TBR. As you can see, it is very thriller/psychological thriller heavy to match the season. That said, my TBR is ever-evolving and I tend to choose my next book based on how I’m feeling at the time, so what I actually end up reading in October is subject to change! I won’t be surprised if I mix in a few lighter reads to balance the scales.
Of the eight books, One Dark Window and Salem’s Lot are both very out of my comfort zone. But my book club is reading One Dark Window and I really want to dip my toes in Stephen King’s world with Salem’s Lot, so I will be giving both a try.
I’m excited to share what I actually end up reading in my October recap and will be sure to share my thoughts on One Dark Window and Salem’s Lot, regardless of how I feel about them.
substacks
After another crazy work week, I am verrrrry behind on Substack, but here are three I read and loved!

eat
It is finally soup weather in New England and I took advantage of that fact this week by making this white bean, kale, and sausage soup by
of Jenn Eats Goood. I first made the recipe last winter and have made it a half dozen or so times since. It delicious and cozy, and I highly recommend serving it along side a massive piece of crusty bread.mood
I’m trying to spend less time on Instagram, so instead of the usual Instagram scroll section, I spent some time on Pinterest and made a fall inspired mood board to share :)
loving
I didn’t do any shopping this week, so no product recommendations today. Instead, I am sharing three non-product things I’ve been loving lately.
one: strength training
For the past five or so years, I have been pretty much a Pilates only girlie, but in May I felt like I needed to mix things up and started to add strength training to my workout routine. Wow. It has been the best decision I have ever made. Not only have I seen incredible changes in my body, but I have been having so much fun with it. If you’ve been thinking about getting into strength training, but don’t know where to start, I’ve been following these guides by Ben Bruno.
two: sad girl lit
My September reading recap will be titled ‘Sad Girl September’ because I have been on a sad girl reading kick lately. There is just something about a sad, messy twenty or thirty-something female protagonist that I cannot get enough of.
three: tea
Every year I go through a very brief, but very intense phase, where I am obsessed with tea. I am currently in said tea phase and it has been so nice and cozy. Here’s hoping I make the habit last longer than a few weeks this year.
watch
Swapping this week’s listen recommendations for two rare watch recommendations!
First, is Tell Me Lies. If you aren’t watching this on Hulu, you must start ASAP. It is such an addicting story of college kids behaving badly, with a cast of characters you will love to hate.
Second, is Challengers. I am late to the party on this one, but I finally watched it on Friday night. I had no idea what to expect from it, other than the fact it was about tennis, but I loved it. I didn’t touch my phone a single time during the movie which, if you know me in real life, is my ultimate stamp of approval.
And that’s a wrap on this week’s breakfast in bed!!
What did you think about the different sections? Would you like to see me mix-up the five categories more often or should I stick to the traditional format?
Also, I would love to see what you have been reading, eating, loving, and watching lately in the comments!
XOXO,
Maddie
Love the 'loving' part and I enjoy you mixing things up!
