Welcome to the first edition of breakfast in bed, a free newsletter delivered to your inbox every Sunday morning. The intention behind the newsletter is to serve as a distraction from your existential Sunday dread—AKA the Sunday Scaries. It is broken into five categories, each of which represents one of the ways I distract from my own Sunday Scaries. Thank you for reading!
read
I Hope This Finds You Well by Natalie Sue - I LOVED this book. I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump recently and this was just the book I needed to pull me out of it. Here is the blurb:
In this wildly funny and heartwarming office comedy, an admin worker accidentally gains access to her colleagues’ private emails and DMs and decides to use this intel to save her job—a laugh-till-you-cry debut novel you’ll be eager to share with your entire list of contacts, perfect for fans of Anxious People and Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine.
I am admittedly very behind on Substack because of the holiday weekend but here are a few I enjoyed this past week!
how to actually enjoy every book you read by Nora West of the simple library
I need everyone to like me by Grace of Now that’s a thought
How to be “Substack Famous” by Amanda of The Certified Readers Department
My Eulogy by Jenny Mollen of The Best Friend Experience
Conservatives don’t get to own patriotism by Emily Amick of Emily in Your Phone
eat
If, like me, you are planning a week of healthy eating after consuming nothing but hamburgers and ice cream for 72 hours but will actually die without a sweet treat to end your day, I highly recommend these Raw Vegan Carrot Cake Bites. My mom sent me this recipe a few months ago but I didn’t get around to making them until last week — holy shit, they are so good. Truly the perfect week night dessert.
Looking for dinner inspo that is healthy but not boring, give these Grilled Shrimp Tacos with Peach Salsa a try. I made them last week and they were super easy to make and felt fresh and summery. A few modifications — I skipped the cilantro because I am one of those anti-cilantro people and I used Siete Foods Almond Flour tortillas instead of corn.
shop
Have you heard of Garmentory? I learned about it this week in Platonic Love’s newsletter and I am obsessed. They make it easy to shop small by allowing you to purchase from thousands of independent boutiques/designers on one platform. I haven’t purchased anything yet because my CFO has mandated some Q3 cutbacks (my husband put me on a budget) but will let you know how the process goes whenever I do!

Quick note on the last final Instagram link… On Wednesday, July 3rd the Seattle Kraken announced that they have hired Jessica Campbell as an assistant coach, making her the first woman to an associate, assistant, or head coach in NHL history. So fucking badass.

Let this playlist soothe your scared Sunday soul.
