Welcome to the second edition of breakfast in bed, a free newsletter delivered to your inbox every Sunday morning. The intention behind the newsletter is to serve as a distraction from your existential Sunday dread—AKA the Sunday Scaries. It is broken into five categories, each of which represents one of the ways I distract from my own Sunday Scaries. Thank you for reading!

Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan - This was an adorable summer romance and I loved that the main characters were in their late thirties and that the FMC was a recently divorced mother of three. Here is the blurb :)
“Benefits of a summer romance: it’s always fun, always brief, and no one gets their heart broken.
There aren’t enough labeled glass containers to contain the mess that is Ali Morris’s life. Her mom died two years ago, then her husband left, and she hasn’t worn pants with a zipper in longer than she cares to remember. She’s a professional organizer whose pantry is a disgrace.
No one is more surprised than Ali when the first time she takes off her wedding ring and puts on pants with hardware—overalls count, right?—she meets someone. Or rather, her dog claims a man for her in the same way he claimed his favorite of her three children: by peeing on him. Ethan smiles at Ali like her pants are just right—like he likes what he sees. The last thing Ali needs is to make her life messier, but there’s no harm in a little Summer Romance. Is there?”

Fish Taco Bowls inspired by this recipe from Skinnytaste
I’ve now made these fish taco bowls three times this summer, we love them! A couple changes — I don’t own an air fryer so I just bake the fish in the oven and I also add avocado and serve it over rice or quinoa :)
Buffalo turkey grain bowls inspired by this recipe from HEB
These were SO good and SO easy. I made a few changes/additions. In my opinion, it needed more veggies so I added cherry tomatoes cut in half, shredded carrots, and chopped celery to our bowls. Instead of Franks Red Hot, I used this buffalo sauce from Primal Kitchen. I chose not to coat the turkey in hot sauce, but use it as a dressing on the finished bowls. I also topped our bowls with feta and sliced green onions.

There Is Life Beyond Adidas Sambas by Erika Veurink of Long Live - I love my Sambas, but I’m sort of over them and loved these recommendations. I have been eyeing a pair of gold Onituska Tigers for foreverrrr and am going to pull the trigger as a birthday gift to myself in the next week.
read this before you shop the nordstrom anniversary sale… Shameless self-promotion but I want you all to be informed consumers!!!

The Money with Katie Show is one of my favorite podcasts and this was a very thought provoking episode. I love any chance to deconstruct the myth that America is the ‘best country in the world’ with the ‘best democracy in the world’ and exploring our obsession with ‘freedom’ at all costs and the idea that if you don’t like it here you should GTFO. Katie and her guests say it much more eloquently than me, but I don’t want to GTFO, I just want to fix what’s broken.
Obsessed with this playlist. It’s a little sexy and sultry, but still fun and summery.
I’ll be back on Tuesday with a new post but if you would like to see more from me in the meantime, follow along over on Instagram!
XOXO,
Maddie
