Welcome to this week’s edition of breakfast in bed, a free newsletter delivered to your inbox every Sunday morning. The intention behind the newsletter is to serve as a distraction from your existential Sunday dread—AKA the Sunday Scaries. It is broken into five categories, each of which represents one of the ways I distract from my own Sunday Scaries. Thank you for reading!

Funny Feelings by Tarah Dewitt
This is a romance novel for fans of the genre. It is a funny, fluffy story about a comedian who falls in love with her manager. I adored it, but it is full of typical romance tropes and patterns and a little bit of cheesiness, so if you don’t like those things, you’re probably not going to enjoy it. That said, if you are a fan of the genre, you’ll love it.
Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors
Oh my god. I don’t even know where to start with this book. I read it in thee days and it is not only my favorite read of 2024 thus far, but has been added to my list of all time favorite books. It is a heavy but beautiful story of sisterhood, addiction, grief, trauma, mental health, and complicated family dynamics. Each of the Blue Sisters will stay with me for a very long time and I can’t wait to share a few of my favorite quotes with you in my September Reading Recap.
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
Another heavy, but beautiful story. I read this a few years ago and think of it often. Kristin Hannah’s prose is beautiful and the way she describes the Alaskan wilderness such a clear picture, I can easily visualize it. I’m not a huge crier, but this brought me tears multiple times. Highly recommend!

On Tuesday morning, I woke up to a broken refrigerator with everything inside spoiled. So fun!!
It took a few days for a replacement to arrive so this week was a hodge-podge of take out and very simple meals (think peanut butter sandwiches for dinner). I spent the week daydreaming about all of the fall recipes I want to make when my new fridge arrived and am so excited to cook fall recipes this coming week. Here are a few I saved:
I’m making this creamy pumpkin & sage pasta by my internet friend
of Gloria Bakes as soon as possible!!Also really want to try making these pumpkin caramel s’mores cookies by
This is the best turkey chili recipe ever — the blogger first shared the recipe in 2015 and I think I discovered it in 2020 and have made it multiple times throughout fall and winter every year since. It was actually on the menu last week, but then the fridge died…
Cauliflower is in season in September and I am looking forward to making this whole roasted cauliflower soon!!
This cheddar and fall veggie sandwich from the same blogger who makes my favorite chili looks amazing — perfect for a cozy Sunday lunch, don’t you think?
I’m very intrigued by this butternut squash cacio e pepe…
This pastry wrapped baked brie with maple roasted apples would be fun to serve when we have friends over for football Sunday!!

Might I suggest starting the day by lighting a fall scented candle, throwing on the ultimate fall playlist by yours truly, and whipping up a stack of pumpkin pancakes?!
That’s it for me this week! I hope you all have a fabulous week. I’ll be back on Tuesday, but if you want to see more from me in the meantime, follow along over on Instagram.
