I read part one and two, and I just want to say - I'm so proud of you! Sharing your experience with alcohol must have been tough, but I can imagine how it could almost be therapeutic in a way. My husband is in the same boat, almost 3 months sober now. I look forward to reading more of your posts about sobriety. Cheering you on 🥳

p.s. do you prefer to go by Madeline? or something else?

Thank you so much!! It was very therapeutic! I was not expecting to split it in to two parts, but apparently I had a lot to say.

Congratulations to your husband!! 3 months is huge! Our culture makes it so tough to make the change, but it is so so worth it if you need to.

And you can call me Maddie 🤗

I came back to read & enjoy this again. I love everything you said and I relate on every level! At some points it felt like you were reading my mind.

I am almost 3 years sober. I ALSO tried many times to complete sober stints before I woke up one **October** (what is it about October?!) morning and said enough is enough. I was done with my own sh*t. I was done feeling terrible. I was done embarrassing myself.

I felt in my heart that I was "not proud of myself" and that's really the only way I measure my progress in my life. I also didn't set a timeline for myself, but after about 90 days I had a whole new lease on life!!

I'm so glad you are feeling great and I can't wait for the many articles to come, esp your thoughts on cali sober and tips for relaxing/destressing without alcohol!

Omg what is it about October!! And congratulations on almost 3 years, that’s huge!!

Not proud of myself is exactly how I felt as well.

It’s crazy to me how many people can relate to this and yet, it can still feel like such a taboo topic.

So happy to have a sober substack friend!!!
